Help us better help you and our students

posted Oct 17, 2016, 10:34 AM by Sean Marks
The mental health and well-being of our students continues to be a priority. As we attempt to support students at many levels and in many different ways, we also realize that parental engagement is important and necessary. Our Board's mental health team has developed a video which is being evaluated. We encourage you to participate in this (it will only take about 20 minutes) and you will also have the opportunity to enter a draw for one of four $100 vouchers for the Supercentre. Questions/concerns are addressed through the link to the research survey.

Thank you for your consideration in supporting this research project regarding parental attitudes towards help-seeking behaviours. The research has been approved through the HDSB research process and is supported by the Mental Health lead and the MH leadership team. At the core of the research is an evaluation of the effectiveness of the Mental health video for parents developed by HDSB’s mental health team. The video seeks to increase parental awareness of the school’s role in supporting student’s mental health and well-being, and increasing parent’s willingness to seek support from schools when they are concerned about the mental health of their child.
The research will include active consent, random assignment to the MH video or a control video, and then completion of a short survey about parental attitudes towards help-seeking. After that there will be an opportunity (through a different page) to enter a draw to win one of four $100 gift vouchers to the Supercentre. All participant information (including school) will be anonymous (except when they enter the draw and that will not be linked to the research data).
